Nikujaga is one of the most popular traditional Japanese recipe, it is made with potatoes, onion, thinly sliced pork or beef, shirataki or ito konjak (thin translucent konjak yam) seasoned and stewed in sweetened soy sauce (made of kikkoman soy sauce, sugar, sake, mirin, and granulated soup stock or hondashi) simmered in low / medium heat until tender.
Nikujaga recipe
Ingredients:
500 grams potatoes
200 grams thinly sliced pork or beef
1 medium size carrot
1 large onions
1 cup ito konjak yam
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp mirin
1 tbsp sake
2-3 tbsp sugar
ground black pepper
salt
granulated soup stock (hondashi)
water / cooking oil
Heat oil in a cooking pot
and fry the pork until color change, stir
Add potatoes and carrot, stir continuously
add shirataki, thickly sliced onion
add all ingredients, cover and simmer
in low / medium heat until tender
after 30 minutes simmering check the taste
add soy sauce or sugar if necessary
turn off the heat, now its ready to serve
transfer in prepared serving bowl
